It’s your birthday tomorrow, did you remember? You should remember because that’s the time of the year when you were chosen out of all those who didn’t even get to feel of the chilly air against their soft baby skin on that special moment you finally out of the comforts of your mother’s womb to wow the world.
As you age, as we age, nothing changes change because every fleeting moment, and every breath we take something and someone transforms into things unimaginable and people more extraordinary. The world has tricked us into thinking you need to have money, power, influence, beauty, and other earthly possessions to be happy – but I find myself, laying on my bed, quite satisfied with this reflection of the beauty of life here in Cebu.
Today, my sister Judy Payot, fresh graduate of St. Paul College of Pasig, Manila - Philippines, texted me that she wanted ride home with me on one of the glistening and glorious public transportation vehicle called a jeep. Yes, the jeep, there’s even a quote “If you haven’t ridden on a jeep, you’re not a Filipino.” Truly, I would actually agree with the saying if the world based everything of what one has done.
That night of the freshman welcoming party, Affinity 2010, is one of the amazing moments of my life. When I ran out of load, I could no longer text my sister back, and due to my fabulous decision-making skills I decided to buy one of the Smart Red unlimited (subscriber identity module) SIM card costing twenty-nine Philippine pesos – what perplexed me about the product was that you didn’t have to maintain a certain balance to access the free texts it offered. Once again, remarking my genuistastic decision-making skills, I failed to check the cell phone number of the module—I got 09385739671- isn’t it fantastic? Just the lack of repeating numbers and lack of pattern makes it so much easier for me to remember it! Ha! Ha-ha!
Okay, switching the SIM card with the Smart red unlimited was the worst choice I made that night. First of all, my sister would not be able to contact me because she has no idea of the hellish set of digits that would enable her to contact me. Two, my father can’t load me because my SIM card isn’t installed to my phone. Three, I wasted twenty-nine pesos. I’m a fool. I just a bought inefficiency and ineffectiveness. I limited myself. Being unknowledgeable about the aspects, functions, and conditions of everyday things brought great anxiety to me. I should stop being ignorant. I should learn, I should want to learn! If I won’t learn it, no one can learn it for me. It’s just as simple that.
After the purchase of Satan’s card, I scurried inside the gymnasium’s covered basketball court at the melody of the Philippine national anthem. I knew that every program in the university always, always started with the salute to our country. Finding that I couldn’t see the flag before me, I paid no mind to it and grabbed a random vacant plastic chair then moved to the front row for a better view. The national anthem was followed by the school hymn – well, nothing special to me yet – then the show began!
The performers were a dance troupe, imitating the Lady GaGa’s music video Bad Romance. Did you know that Lady GaGa’s not her real name and she wears normal clothes when she’s shopping or just taking a stroll in the park? Her real name is actually Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta if Wikipedia isn’t lying to me.
Haha, you thought I’d have a conclusion? F-U! This ain’t no essay fo’ English class! Suck my banana, it’s ripe!
